Null’s Brawl with Buzz Lightyear, Meeple, and Ollie (59.197) | Toy Story

The long-awaited update for Null’s Brawl featuring a collaboration with Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story, including new brawlers Buzz Lightyear, Meeple, and Ollie, is now available in version 59.197.
This is a major update that requires significant time to adapt to our battle logic. This time, we’ve got three new brawlers that everyone has been waiting to see on the server. Additionally, the official server introduced a temporary brawler, Buzz Lightyear. Should we keep him permanently? We’ll decide later through a poll in our Telegram channel.

What’s important to know about this update?

This version introduces changes that simplify interactions with the game client. The developers of the original game are improving their code, and we’re keeping up. For example, some values used to be hardcoded, making them harder to find and limiting flexibility — any changes required rebuilding the project. This approach wasn’t optimal, as it could cause major issues.

Thanks to the latest update, the code has become much simpler and easier to edit. Now, battle durations are loaded from the game_mode_variations.csv file, and the code is significantly cleaner.

By the way, the maximum battle duration has slightly increased. Previously, in modes without a timer (such as Showdown or Training), the duration was fixed at 16,000 ticks. Now, the getIntroTicks()function adds extra ticks, increasing the total to 16,182.

To be honest, we’re still not sure why you were so eager to vote for Buzz Lightyear. We’re not planning to make him permanent just yet. However, as promised, we completed his implementation over the past few days and are now actively working on the next brawler — Meeple.

Recently, we also released an optional update. It required some time to implement and special attention to build the client for iOS. But now everything is ready, and we’re moving forward!
